Minimum Dollar Boy

Recording with Hybegnu was awesome, seriously.
Everyone involved had something great to contribute. Their first album was mostly angular avant-noise-sludge stuff, but the new one is nothing but contrast and strangeness, without losing a central feeling of discomforting other-worldliness.
Spastic/atonal math jams, gaunt odd time metal, new wave hip-hop, hideous screeching noise, submarine drone, ambient acoustitronic free jazz... basically a ton of things that the average Bubblegum Octopus fan might not really like, but the average m@ the c@ fan will be totally down with.

I think one of the best parts of the whole thing was the fact that one song literally sounds EXACTLY like what you might expect from a collaboration between Keith (of PAK, Time Of Orchids, and tons more) Dylan (of Giggle The Ozone, Zeehas; 12 Wait, and more) and myself... and I consider that sound to be quite desirable.

I ended up doing bass, guitar with a bunch of my effects pedals, vocals, and a set-up where I had a mic running into my KP3, which ran into my DD7, and I played glockenspiel and slide whistle through it. We switched line-ups for almost every song.

As for a release, I don't know yet. We're doing more than expected with this album, so it might be a while yet.

Bad Happy is still trudging along... eh, well... actually.... it's more like it's jogging at this point, but it keeps tripping over it's shoelaces even though I keep reminding it to tie them.
I basically re-did entire drum tracks for like 5 songs, making them ridiculous elaborate, added some potentially unnecessary synth parts from the Nanosynth, and have been fighting with the frustration of mixing up to about 50 tracks of audio and MIDI per song.

After the grindiest song on the album has it's drums replaced (it's kind of like Falcon Breeze's much more sophisticated and elaborate spiritual successor,) my only obstacles in the way of having this thing done are the vocals for 9 tracks, some guitar and bass parts, some textural palette cleansers, and the very daunting mixing process.
I've got an install of Komplete 7 on the way that was donated by my father, who got it for teaching purposes, and I think Battery may be the trick for the drums on that thing.

I need to get more shirts printed. All I have left is small and girly small o_o;
Money is so tight that it's pretty hard to afford these things. If I get more of the Tubbypaws design it'll probably be the last run of 6 color shirts for a while.
I'm definitely under-charging you all for them.
I'm too nice sometimes (^-^;; )

Oh, I forgot to include this the first time I updated this post.
The Kitten's Rejoinder is actually going to be getting a "DIY style" release through the micro-label that Yatagarasu runs. He's looking to boost it up in scale and to do that he's going to release nothing but quality extreme/experimental electronic artists (I think only ones that involve chiptune elements, too.)
The Kitten's Rejoinder will be packaged in a similar fashion to Take Control:
Photobucket

Hand printed cover on a cardboard sleeve, xeroxed insert, nice disc.
Actually, the cover will be nicer than these (not that I didn't like them) because Chris now has access to a multi-armed screen printing press... which sounds like a good thing, haha

New Ultra Death Men material is being written, by the way, some of which will be audible at our upcoming show...

....speaking of...

Some of my upcoming shows:

• November 12th - Ultra Death Men @ The Clash Bar (21+ show, sadly) in Clifton, NJ

• December ??? - Giggle The Ozone @ ???? in Brooklyn, NY (more details on that soon, I'm just excited to be playing with them again)

• January 6th - Bubblegum Octopus @ Hustle House in Los Angeles, California (first show of the tour with Monomate)

• January 7th - Bubblegum Octopus @ Biko Garage in Santa Barbara, California (w/ Monomate)

• January 29th - Bubblegum Octopus @ Hexagon Space in Baltimore, Maryland (w/ Talk To Animals! Finally!)

Hope those of you that like Halloween enjoyed the holiday.
The weather is perfect for me right now. See-your-breath cold, without being discomforting.
Give it some time, snow will come and then I'll say that's the perfect weather.

  1. Hey, a few things;
1: I can't find the album Oh (Or is it stylized Oh? or Oh.) by you, under the name c@. The link to it on your Bubblegum Octopus Mediafire is just the MACOSX or whatever, can you please put it up somewhere so I can download it? Come to think of it, I can't find Horse Weiner, your split with Peppermint Pony, or the Blood Cat EP. Can you make these available somewhere?
    2: Come to Miami!
3: You said on Myspace that two songs got cut from Bad Happy because they didn't feel right to you. I write a lot of music and completely understand the feeling of wanting your album to flow naturally and all, but since I love your work can you release these two songs somewhere else? Like free download, or maybe on Kitten's Rejoinder?
    Speaking of which, *segway*
4: Is Kitten's (or whatever the iTunes collection of splits is called) coming soon? You said somewhere you were just waiting on the art...
    5: Come to Miami!
6: Will the songs from My God Is The Cat King be on Kitten's Rejoinder?
7: (I only care if the answer to 6 is no) When are new copies of My God Is The Cat King gonna be up?
    8: Come to Miami!
Thanks for reading through this if you do, I appreciate it, I'm a huge fan.
Oh, and the notes you did in most of your ZIPS, especially Possible Party are awesome, with the explanations of each song. I would LOVE this for TAFKA 8-Legged Dance Moves, you should do it sometime. And do it for Bad Happy and Sparkle Fountain, please :]

  2. 1. Oh? should be downloadable on the c@ last.fm page. Let me know f there is a problem and eventually I'll try to figure out what's wrong with the current upload.

2/5/8. In due time! I need to hit Florida again for sure!

    3. I have an immense backlog of Bubblegum Octopus material (well over 200 completed songs that just need vocals/instruments/other electronics/etc) and I plan on releasing everything that I possibly can.
At the moment the songs for Bad Happy and mixing/mastering for Kitten's Rejoinder gets 100% focus until the end of the year.
I will probably end up using the songs I cut for a split or maybe the next b-sides/rarities release.

    4. Yeah, still waiting on the art. In the meantime I'm taking the time to re-mix the Scissor Shock split a little. It is going to fundamentally be way more rough than my new output, but I want to polish it a little.
I also realized just now that I haven't recorded the vocals or Enjoy My Home: Platinum. Bad Happy has been occupying my brain space, haha

    6. Yes, I believe they will be.
It's a bit weird to have the same songs on two different albums, but I figure that the packaging and price for MGITCK and the awesome tracks by Dental Work are what makes it all worth it (especially if you like noise/harsh outsider music)

    No problem!
And yeah, I've thought about doing those for the physical releases, but I actually didn't think anyone was reading them. Now I have at least three people who have told me they read them!
    Excellent!

  3. Thanks for answering, x) I appreciate it, and I can't wait to buy Bah Happy/Kitten's Rejoinder and beyond. Sorry for not paying for 8-Legged, haha.
Just because I'll probably forget to ask later, why is meow flute the only song not capitalized in TAFKA 8-Legged Dance Moves?
And you have no idea how hard I laughed when I heard that PSA you did for radio in Chicago, xDDD

  4. For a number of reasons.

1, it was a re-recorded version and I changed some titles for their re-records (e.g Eating The Not So Yummy Sadness Pie became Eating The Not-So-Yummy Pie of Sadness, Meredith's Magical Village of Friends became Meredith's Village, and Story of the 8-bit Compy got the "(Ver. 2)" treatment)

2, I kind of dislike that song now, so I was sort of jokingly saying "maybe if I put it in lowercase, no one will notice it's on here"

3, the DAW file for the song was titled "meow flute" without the capitals, and I'm always biased towards going with my working titles.
Great Beard; Happy Mustache was originally called 'Dictated' for some reason, and I still have the file for that song that I play live using that title.

And yeah, I think I explained it in the text file, but they make all of the artists read one. They just handed me a book, opened to a random page and told me to read the first one I saw.

  5. The first one you saw seriously happened to be that hilariously ironic?
And yeah, it's good but not your best, I can see why it would get annoying (since it's arguably the one you're best known for)
